Hongbo got his Ph.D. in condensed matter physics in 2003. He has worked in multiple fields, including high temperature superconductivity, carbon nanotubes, solar cells, thermoelectrics, and phonon theory.

He is currently working on the simulation of the thermoacoustic imaging assisted focused microwave therapy for breast cancers.

He is a proud father of four children.
